From a financial point of view, the project has two objectives: i) a financially healthy organisation, ii) an affordable price for each cubic metre of drinking water. Various financial analyses have been carried out in order to gain a reliable picture of the aforementioned matters.

Investments, risks and cash flow

Below is an overview of the total project costs. These are based on different quotations from local contractors. The risks entailed in the project are also outlined: what if the construction takes longer than planned? What if the population grows much faster than expected? What if the electricity suddenly becomes outrageously expensive? All of these scenarios have been detailed in a financial analysis.
The future organisation will be established in such a way that it can operate independently following the one-off investment of € 51,700.00. Using cash-flow analyses, consideration is given to whether there will be sufficient money in the coffers when essential parts, such as the pump, have to be replaced. The minimum price of the water is determined based on this information.

Click here for a larger version You can see one of the most important conclusions that has been derived in the chart to the right: : in all of the aforementioned scenarios, the costs per m3 of drinking water remain affordable, even for the poorer members of the population. As a comparison: the current price is 10 pesos per m3; in the surrounding villages they pay 12 to 20 pesos per m3.
